Kandy being the second largest city in Sri Lanka after Colombo attracts quite a number of tourists. Kandy gains its fame from being the Hill Capital of the island where the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most sacred places of worship for Buddhists worldwide, is situated.
Kandy has an interesting history during different eras. It was the main seat of many kings who ruled various kingdoms. This rich mixture of culture and history led to Kandy being declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.
